A PDP MLA today allegedly physically assaulted an MLC of the ruling National Conference during a District Development Board meeting here which witnessed verbal duel between the leaders of both the parties.
NC MLC Ali Mohammad Dar and PDP MLA Javed Mustafa Mir had a heated exchange of words at the meeting chaired by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, official sources said.
They said the argument erupted over the development issues of a part of Chadoora constituency which falls in Srinagar district.
The sources said that Mir allegedly physically assaulted Dar and the PDP MLA had to be restrained by other participants at the meeting.
Meanwhile, National Conference condemned the assault on Dar, terming it "shameful" and a "reflection of Goonda mindset" by the opposition party.
"It has become a trait of the PDP to create ruckus in every meeting that is held for the development of the state. They did the same in assembly and now in the district development board meeting," Provincial President of NC Nasir Aslam said.
He said the action of the PDP Legislator is also testimony of the fact that they have no respect for the Panchayats or its members.
"The PDP and its leaders have no respect and regard for the Panchayats and this fact can be gauged from the action of Javed Mustafa Mir," he said.
Wani demanded an unconditional apology from the MLA and PDP leadership for such a "shameful" and "indecent" act.
NC leader And Higher Education minister Mohammad Akbar Lone and PDP legislators Naeem Akhtar and Nizamuddin Bhat had used abusive language against each other during a board meeting for Bandipora district last month.
