Adik, 76, died late last evening and is survived by his wife, a son and three daughters.
According to family sources, Adik had been admitted to the ICU of Bombay Hospital a few days back following a lung infection, but his condition became serious yesterday.
The final rites of the leader were conducted at his native village in Shrirampur tehsil in Ahmednagar district.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, "We have lost senior leader in Govindrao Adik. He will be remembered for his work in agriculture and cooperation. My heartfelt condolences."
Calling Adik a "down to earth" man who valued friendship above everything else, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ashok Chavan said that he had done commendable work in the field of education, culture and that he was an exceptional social worker.
Adik was earlier with the Congress.
RPI (A) Chief Ramdas Athawale said that Adik played an important role in stitching the alliance between the Congress and his party in the past and that he was well aware of the problems the Dalits in the state face and worked relentlessly for their upliftment.
