"We do not feel the state police is undertaking investigation into the death case involving a lady doctor in right way. Therefore, we suggest Odisha government to recommend a CBI probe into the matter," NCW chairperson Mamata Sharma told an Odia news channel in Delhi.
The NCW chairperson's statement was based on the field visit of Commission member Charu Walikhanna, who visited the state last month. The railway police had recovered the body of lady ayush doctor Madhavilata Pradhan from railway track at Malatipatpur in Puri on October 12, 2012.
"It can safely be concluded that the present case is an appropriate case where the investigation by the police authorities is not in the proper direction and in order to do complete justice in the case, it would be prudent and advisable to transfer the investigation to an independent agency like CBI," said the NCW report.
The report also observed "...There is an attempt to obstruct inquiry by the Commission in order to protect the ruling party MLA."
Reacting to NCW's recommendation of a CBI probe into the matter, Dasburma said: "I welcome any investigation ... Be it CBI. However, it should also be probed under which circumstances the NCW made this recommendation after seven months of the incident.
