The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) would prepare an action plan to deal with the heat wave during the coming summer season, its member R K Jain said here today.
Jain was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on the action plan for heat wave, a state government release said.
The heat-related deaths were brought down in 2016 compared to 2015 by sending a plan of action to the states, the release quoted him as saying.
"The action plan for coming summer would be prepared by taking inputs from state governments and different organisations," he said.
NDMA Joint Secretary Thiruppugazh said that an estimated 22,000 people died due to heat-related incidents from 1992 to 2015.
The number of deaths was 2400 in 2015, while it was 1100 in 2016, he said.
