The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) in its campaign against illegal encroachments on roads and public places has cleared over 87,000 square metres of temporary and permanent unauthorised occupations in the last 10 days.

The civic body has also impounded 231 vehicles during this period from its area.

In a total of 93 actions taken in the last 10 days, 13,405 square metres of permanent and 74,392 square metres of temporary encroachments were cleared, said a senior NDMC official.

Besides, 231 vehicles were impounded and 1,550 miscellaneous items were seized till yesterday, the official said.

The East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) under the drive has demolished 200 platforms and seized over 200 vehicles encroaching right of way during the last week, the officer said.

The civic body has advised the PWD to use grills and bollards to prevent encroachments of roads from where reports of recurrence of unauthorised vending and parking have been received.

A special task force has been formed by the central government on the direction of the Supreme Court to remove encroachments in the national capital.

The task force headed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) vice chairman includes commissioners of all the three municipal corporations, chairperson of the New Delhi Municipal Council, and officials of the Delhi Jal Board, the Delhi Police and other departments..
