NE region's first 'Jan Aushadhi Store' opened in Arunachal

The first Jan Aushadhi Store (JAS), a central scheme to provide quality generic medicines at affordable prices to people, in the north eastern region was inaugurated today at Naharlagun near here.
Union Minister Mansukh L Mandaviya inaugurated the JAS, a project under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana, in Tomo Riba State Hospital.
Of the 84 proposed JASs in the state, six general hospitals and 14 district hospitals would be covered in the first phase while 64 primary health centres (PHCs) would be covered by December next year in the second phase.
The Union Minister of State for Chemical and Fertilisers said NGOs and young pharmacists could also open such stores to get employment and urged the state government to expedite the process.
'Jan Aushadhi' was launched by the Department of Pharmaceuticals under the Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Ministry in association with the Bureau of Pharma PSUs of India.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, who was present on the occasion, appreciated the Prime Minister for launching the scheme and asserted that the state government would ensure all support in running the JASs successfully.
Khandu, who also holds the Health portfolio, said, "The scheme should also benefit the NGOs working in the field."
Chief Secretary Shakuntala Doley Gamlin in her address said the state would greatly benefit from the scheme which would facilitate to make medicines available at people's doorstep.
