NE states to become hub for good parliamentary practices:

Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi Tuesday said the eight North Eastern states will become a hub for good parliamentary practices and connect with rest of the country through a spirit of cooperative federalism.

Delivering his valedictory speech at the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region, Zone III here, Mukhi said the CPA is the fusion of diverse languages, values, tradition and religion and it will also be helpful in fostering the bond amongst the Commonwealth partners.

He added that the CPA would also help in strengthening the knowledge of constitutional, legislative, economic, social and cultural traditions to help the newly elected lawmakers to imbibe the values of parliamentary democracy in them to serve the people better.

Expressing his gratitude to Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, who launched North East Chapter of Speakers' Research Initiative on Monday, Mukhi said the new unit will definitely pave the way for the holistic growth and progress of the legislative system for the entire region.

Over the years, the institution of Commonwealth has played a crucial role in promoting mutual cooperation and consultation among the members in all spheres of human life, he said.
