Need for business-related courts in J&K: Committee

A Parliamentary Standing Committee today said there was a need for business-related courts in Jammu and Kashmir to address the commercial grievances of the people as trade was picking up in the state.
"Since Jammu and Kashmir is coming to a developmental mode, we want to get an opinion whether there is a need for a commercial court or a commercial bench in the high court of the state. For that purpose, we have called different sections of people.
"Overall, what we could understand is, there is a need for commercial court system in Jammu and Kashmir since the natural calamity (floods of last year) has made the commercial activities to slow down but now it is picking up and many of the tourists have started to come and commercial activities have started to come up.

"The need for a commercial court system is thus in tune with the current demands," chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice, E M Sudarsana Natchiappan told reporters here.
The 13-member committee held a series of meetings with different departments and institutions of the state. The committee is on a visit to study the need for a commercial court system in the state.
Natchiappan said besides the various government agencies involved, the committee also held meetings with private trade bodies and other stake holders to seek their inputs.

He said the committee would present its report for discussion in the monsoon session of Parliament.

"If the Bill is passed, then the same can come up for discussion in the state legislative assembly," the chairman said.
He also stressed upon the need for an effective public grievance redressal mechanism and heightened level of vigilance in order to address the problem of corruption in every organisation.
He expressed satisfaction over the redressal of public grievances in the state.
He said Right to Information Act (RTI) was also being implemented properly in the state.
