There is a need for an interface between science and engineering for better solutions to the problems faced by the society, former ISRO chairman K Kasturirangan today said.
He said it was important to take forward the concept of technology in our education system.
"How do you interface the area between science and engineering and at the same time make sure that this interface means ultimately the solution to the larger part of the society and in respect to our country.
"It is also important to focus on education. We need to take forward the concept of technology in our education system. Much more need to be done especially with technologies related to engineering," he said.
Kasturirangan was speaking at the valedictory session of a two-day programme of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences (CATES) Convocation. The event is being hosted by Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), its Indian chapter.
The conference saw discussions in the field of energy, healthcare and transport mobility.
With the government giving thrust on 'Smart Cities', Kasturirangan emphasised on utilisation of waste.
CATES President Baldev Raj, who is former director of the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research in Kalpakkam, said of the total resources taken from the nature only four per cent can be recycled and it is important to increase the number.
Raj also laid emphasis on having gender equality while seeking engineering solutions from the very beginning of the problem.
