The man is said to be 41-year-old Jason Sullivan, Cruise's neighbour. He was arrested after he tried climbing a fence to get onto the property in an inebriated condition.
A security guard at the star's Calle Vista Drive property spotted him and used a Taser stun gun to stop him, according to US media reports.
He was later examined in hospital for injuries. It is believed that he became confused and tried to get into the wrong house after getting drunk.
Neither Cruise nor his family were thought to have been home when the incident occurred.
