Three Pakistani nationals have been arrested from a Nepalese tourist hub on a charge of possessing over 5 kg of white heroin worth Rs 10 crore, a senior official said today.
They were arrested yesterday from a room at Pilgrims Hotel in Thamel on the basis of a tip-off, from where the police recovered 4 kg and 64 grams of the contraband, according to Superintendent of Police at Narcotic Control Bureau of Nepal Police, Rana Bahadur Chand.
The police seized the remaining 1 kg of heroin from the possession of a female Pakistani national, he told PTI.
Those arrested include Syed Majhar Hussain Kazmi, 38, of Karachi, Sahida Parveen, 50, of Rawalpindi and Atta Muhmad Shah, 56, according to the police.
One kg of heroin was hidden in a bag carried by Sahida, according to the police.
The drug was brought to Kathmandu from Pakistan by air and it was to be trafficked to a third country, where the contraband would cost at least Rs 10 crore, police said.
After producing the accused in the Kathmandu District Court today, the police have sent them to judicial remand and will carry out detailed investigations.
Nepal has become a transit point for international narcotics dealers who bring the contraband items mainly from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar to be trafficked to third countries, police say.
