Two wheels of a coach attached to the Neral-Matheran toy train derailed Friday morning, but no passenger was injured in the fourth such incident this year, a Central Railway official said.
The toy train, popular with tourists, connects Neral, a town on Mumbai's outskirts, to Matheran, a hill station in adjoining Raigad district. The train travels the 21km distance in around 2 hours.
"The incident took place at 10.35 am when the toy train was between Jumma Patti-Waterpipe stations. Our engineers chipped in swiftly and re-railed the wheels at 11.50 am," said the official.
There were no injuries to any passenger and the toy train later resumed its service, he said.
This was the fourth toy train derailment this year.
The first was in October, days after the train resumed services post-monsoon break when a luggage-cum-brake van coach derailed near Aman Lodge station.
The other two derailments took place on December 9 and December 20. However, no passenger was injured in any of these derailments.
In 2016 and 2017, for almost two years, the services of the 110-year-old toy train were suspended following back-to -back derailments.
