The midfielder received his first international call up in 2009. Since then he represented his country in 19 international matches and was also part of the team that won the 2012 African Cup of Nations.
"I am glad to stay with North East United FC for another season. I definitely have improved as a player over the past five months. I hope to build on from last season, and contribute towards the club picking up some silverware in the coming season," Mtonga was quoted as saying in a release.
"We are extremely pleased to announce that Zambian international, Kondwani Mtonga, has been retained for the second season of the ISL. His presence in the middle of the park and superior aerial abilities shall be on show once again," Northeast United FC franchise added.
Mtonga made 13 appearances and scored two goals in the inaugural edition of ISL last year.
