Talking to reporters after assuming charge here, Kumar said "we have information about large-scale smuggling of narcotic substances into the region from Myanmar border and from Pakistan through Punjab."
"Functioning of special squads would be strengthened after proper evaluation," he said.
Separate programmes will be conducted for the benefit of tribal people in remote areas in Wayanad district and places like Attappadi in Palakkad district in Kerala. To a question on functioning of the investigation team probing the murder of Revolutionary Marxist Party leader, T P Chandrasekaran in 2012, Kumar said no decision has been taken whether to retain the existing team or to form a new one.
