The book 'Lady Macbeth : An Approach from Reader Response Theory' was written by noted scholar Professor Dr Madhusudan Chowdhury.
The recent launch of the book, published by 'Readers Service', Kolkata, coincides with the 400th death anniversary of William Shakespeare.
Chowdhury is one of the very few Indian scholars in this field, his teacher and noted Shakespearean scholar, Professor Amitava Roy said.
Reader response is a school of theory which recognises the reader as an active 'agent' in the overall appreciation of a literary work. Nowadays reader response is found effective in classroom teaching situation also, particularly in the US.
