A UGC-funded research on 'Lady Macbeth which takes a new look at Shakespearean study by focusing on a reader's response was handed over to UGC Joint Secretary Dr Mohammed Arif at the UGC Kolkata office.
The book 'Lady Macbeth : An Approach from Reader Response Theory' was written by noted scholar Professor Dr Madhusudan Chowdhury.
The recent launch of the book, published by 'Readers Service', Kolkata, coincides with the 400th death anniversary of William Shakespeare.
Chowdhury is one of the very few Indian scholars in this field, his teacher and noted Shakespearean scholar, Professor Amitava Roy said.
Reader response is a school of theory which recognises the reader as an active 'agent' in the overall appreciation of a literary work. Nowadays reader response is found effective in classroom teaching situation also, particularly in the US.
His earlier book Reader Response (2013), which was published from Readers Service Kolkata, had been included in a list of books of internationally acclaimed scholars released by amazon.Fr (2015) and Chowdhury was the only Indian in the list, Chowdhury, the English Professor of a North Bengal College, said.
