The new scheme was approved by the Finance Department recently, said Director of Women and Child Development, Saumya Gupta.
Gupta said that under the new scheme, a fixed amount of money would be provided for each child of prisoner on monthly basis till the child attains the age of 18 years or till his or her parents are released from prison.
The amount of financial assistance would be credited to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
Under the scheme, Rs 3000 would be given per month for the first child, Rs 2000 per month for the second child and Rs 1500 per month for the third child.
