Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has said that the new state secretariat building at Tashiling area here will become fully functional from January 2, next year.
Chamling inaugurated the new secretariat, built at the cost of Rs 264.30 crore on Tuesday. It will accommodate all the important offices of the state government.
Speaking at the inauguration function, he urged all officials and employees to enter the new secretariat with a positive mindset and work with an attitude to resolve problems of the people and implement various schemes of the state government for betterment of the masses.
The chief minister directed all the concerned departments operating from Manan Bhawan and other rented establishments to immediately shift their offices to the new premises.
A Kolkata-based construction firm was given the contract to build the new secretariat building as the old secretariat was extensively damaged in an earthquake in September 2011.
The foundation stone of the project was laid by the then Sikkim Governor Balmiki Prasad Singh on March 1, 2013.
