According to an NHRC release, notices have been served on the Chhattisgarh chief secretary and the district magistrate of Kanker calling for a report in the matter within two weeks.
The notices were issued after NHRC took suo motu cognisance of a media report on December 24 which alleged that women at the sterilisation camp had to sleep on the floor after being operated upon. The camp was held at Dhaneli Kanhar in Kanker district.
NHRC decided to act after observing that the report, if true, involved a likely case of violation of the right to health and dignity of women, the statement added.
