According to a statement issued here, the Commission has issued notice to the Barabanki Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), calling for a report in the matter within four weeks.
The notice was issued after the Commission took suo motu cognizance of a media report which alleged that no FIR had been registered in connection with the gang rape that took place in Haidergarh area of the district in Uttar Pradesh on April 13, 2014.
The convict's wife was then allegedly gang-raped by four persons, including the woman's husband.
The gang rape victim "was found in a critical condition by villagers on the roadside and was admitted to a nearby medical facility", the statement said.
The Commission has observed that the contents of the press report, if true, amount of serious violation of human rights of the gang rape victim.
