The National Human Rights Commission today sought a report from the Haryana government over reports that more than 100 Dalits were forced to flee from a village in the state by members of an upper caste.
Taking suo motu cognisance of media reports, the commission asked the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police to submit the reports within four weeks.
The action came after a Dalit boy reportedly married an upper caste girl of the Rod community last week, following which the community members attacked the Dalits injuring 10 people including seven policemen.
