Minaj, 34, was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, but raised in South Jamaica, Queens.
The popular hip-hop artiste took to Twitter to share the news with her fans and followers where she posted a picture of the key and a card that accompanied it, bestowed upon her by Queens Borough president, Melinda Katz.
"This is a #MajorKeyAlert I just got the #KeyToTheCity #ProudQueensGirl Thank you #MelindaKatz Queens Borough president," wrote Minaj alongside the photo.
According to Billboard, a number of rappers such as Fabolous, Big Sean and Drake, among others, have also been bestowed the keys of their hometowns.
