Nifty ends above 8,400-mark after 2-month

Continuing its rising streak for the third straight day, Nifty surged by another 27 points to breach 8,400-mark after two months to close at 8,407.20 on sustained buying mainly in in Infra, Energy and IT sectors on the back of overnight gains in US market.
The NSE 50-share Nifty index opened higher at 8,391.05 and hovered in a range of 8,417.20 and 8,382.30 before ending at 2-month high at 8,407.20, showing a gain of 26.55 points or 0.32 per cent. The Nifty has gained by 171.15 points or 2.09 per cent in three days.
The Nifty had last ended at 8,525.75 on November 10, 2016.
Other indices like Nifty Infra rose by 2.10 per cent followed by Nifty IT 1.74 per cent and Nifty Energy 1.15 per cent.
Major gainers were NTPC (5.59 per cent), Powergreed (4.32 per cent), Infosys (3.19 per cent), Tata Power (3.19 per cent) and Larsen (2.62 per cent).
However, Idea fell by 3.28 per cent, Lupin 2.02 per cent, Hind Unilver 1.85, M&M 1.51 per cent and Eicher Motor 1.45 per cent.
A total of 635 scrips advanced, 1,009 declined while 72 remained unchanged. Total securities that hit their price bands were 95.
Turnover in the cash segment fell to Rs 18,208.89 crores from Rs 21,562.17 crores yesterday.
A total of 10,136.04 lakh shares changed hands in 7,566,068 trades. The market capitalisation of NSE stood at Rs 10,861,044 crore.
