Nifty ends below 8,100, down by 46 points

Nifty dropped over half percent as investors preferred to stay away from market as disappointing results from ITC and Larsen dented the sentiments of the market and forced it to trade lower by 46 points to ended below 8100-mark or 0.57 percent at 8065.80, its lowest close since Oct. 1.
The 50-shares broader index opened slightly higher at 8,123.55 and hovered in a range of 8,146.10 and 8,044.40 before closing at 8,065.80, showing a loss of 45.95 point or 0.57 per cent from its last close.
Overseas, Asian shares edged higher and were on track for their biggest monthly rise since January 2012, as global central banks kept stimulative policies intact and many hinted at further steps to re-energise their economies. That has helped soothe investors' fears of the prospect of higher borrowing costs in the US as the Federal Reserve prepares to tighten rates, possibly by year-end.
Stock-wise notable losers were, Vedl by 6.68 percent ITC 4.39 per cent, Larsen 4.08 per cent, M&M 3.60 per cent and Bosch Ltd 2.90 per cent.
Among the gainers were, NTPC was up by 3.79 per cent, Kotak Bank 3.56 per cent, ICICI Bank 2.04 per cent, Yes Bank 2.02 per cent and Dr Reddy 1.39 per cent.
About 485 shares advanced, 1034 shares declined, and 65 shares were unchanged.
Turnover in the cash segment fell to Rs 19,057.07 crs from Rs 21,595.55 crore yesterday. A total of 9,397.75 lakh shares changed hands in 78,53,771 trades and the market capitalisation of NSE stood at Rs 96,54,114 crs.
