Nifty ends with losses for sixth session, down 12 points

Bourses extended its decline for sixth day on bouts of selling in key PSU banks, Energy, Infra and Metal counters with benchmark Nifty losing another 12.15 points to close at 8,530.80 at the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
The index witnessed stock specific buying and selling amid choppy momentum as caution prevailed the sentiment ahead of March derivative expiry tomorrow.
Shares from mid-cap and small-cap companies also ended with losses, while Pharma extended the buying, also supported by IT, Auto and FMCG segments.
The broad-based 50-share Nifty opened higher at 8,568.90 and traded between 8,573.75 and 8516.55 before closing at 8,530.80, showing a loss of 12.15 points, or 0.14 per cent.
Stockwise, PNB fell by 3.83 per cent, NTPC 3.50 per cent, GAIL 2.51 per cent, NMDC 2.39 per cent, L&T 2.36 per cent and SBIN 1.90 per cent.
While notable gainers are HCL Tech 3.79 per cent, DLF 3.09 per cent, Tata Motors 1.80 per cent, Cairn 1.80 per cent, ICICI Bank 1.60 per cent and Sun Pharma 1.44 per cent.
Turnover in the cash segment rose to Rs 16,400.97 crore against Rs 15,795.71 crore yesterday. A total of 7,294.66 lakh shares changed hands in 68,41,206 trades. The market capitalisation at NSE stood at Rs 99,01,557 crore.
Elsewhere, Asian markets closed mixed.
Meanwhile, Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 737.86 crore yesterday as per provisional data.
