Nifty extends losses, down 21 points on global cues

Continuing its losses for sixth straight session, the Nifty 50-share index settled with modest losses, down 21 points at 8,061.30 after witnessing sudden slide during late trade on sustained selling in some counters amid bearish sentiment in European and Asian market.
The gauge witnessed sustained selling in FMCG, IT, Media and Pharma sectors, while Realty, Energy, Metal and PSU stocks ended in green.
Overseas, European stocks were trading mixed amid volatility. Asian stocks ended mixed after overnight advances in US stocks.
Back home, the Nifty opened higher at 8,105.85 and moved in a range of 8.112.55 and 8,053.25 before ending at 8,061.30, showing a fall of 21.10 points or 0.26 per cent.
It saw an intra-day movement of about 59.30 points.
On sectoral front, FMCG fell by 1.14 percent, followed by IT (0.92 per cent), Media (0.99 per cent), Pharma (0.72 per cent), Auto (0.11 per cent) and Infra (0.06 per cent).
However, Realty rose by 1.05 per cent, followed by Energy 0.63 per cent, Metal 0.53 and PSU 0.17 per cent.
Major index laggards were InfraTel (2.75 per cent), SunPharma (2.14 per cent), ITC (1.59 per cent), Ambuja Cem (1.56 percent), Zeel (1.57 percent) and Hcl Tech (1.34 pct).
The gainers included UltraCemCo (1.49 per cent), Lupin (1.10 per cent), NTPC (1.11 per cent), IndusInd Bank (1.34 per cent) and Hindalco (0.96 pct).
A total of 904 scrips declined, 693 advanced while 78 remained unchanged. Total securities that hit their price bands were 83.
Turnover in the cash segment fell to Rs 14,048.65 crore from Rs 15,384.60 crore as on Tuesday.
A total of 7,127.33 lakh shares changed hands in 6,691,113 trades. The market capitalisation of NSE stood at Rs 10,349,869.67 crore.
