Night curfew has been clamped in Mon district of Nagaland bordering Arunanchal Pradesh, Assam and Myanmar after the abrogation of 14-year-old ceasefire between Khaplang faction of National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) and the Centre and subsequent ambush of the security forces at various places.
The Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Mon district, W Honje Konyak promulgated the prohibitory order under Section 144 of CrPC enforcing the night curfew from 6:00 PM to 5:00 AM in the areas of Indo-Myanmar border and Nagaland-Arunachal Pradesh inter state border Tuesday.
Movement of any person, group, vehicular traffic within one kilometer belt in Nagaland side bordering Myanmar and Arunachal Pradesh is prohibited during the curfew period, he said.
However, the security forces have to ensure that unwarranted harassment of civilians does not take place, the DC said.
Magistrates, police and others on exigency duties with the permission from the competent authority would be exempted from the purview of the curfew, he said.
Further, in view of volatile situation in the aftermath of the abrogation of ceasefire by the NSCN(K), Honje said that security forces are carrying out extensive operations all over Nagaland.
In order to ensure the safety of the general public and to prevent any case of mistaken identity or untoward incident the sale and use of any camouflage, khaki or any colour patterned clothing identical to paramilitary and law enforcing agencies in Mon district has been banned with immediate effect.
The security forces and armed personnel are also directed to desist from wearing their uniforms either fully or partially while they are on leave, the DC Mon informed.
The ceasefire with the government was abrogated by NSCN-K on March 28.
