Each of the 27 schools were awarded Rs 25000 in cash or were given computers.

The winning schools were chosen after judging whether their students were aware of the use of sanitary toilets and cleanliness issues.

The Nirmal Vidyalaya project was funded by Sarva Siksha Abhiyan with consultation from UNICEF.
