Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today flagged off Krishi Raths to all 38 districts in Bihar for dissemination farm techniques and related information to farmers under the Kharif Abhiyan, 2016.
After flagging off the Raths, he directed Agriculture Production Commissioner Vijay Prakash and Agriculture Secretary to ensure that paddy cultivation under the Kharif Production Programme, 2016, should be done through Srividhi technique.
In view of the impact of climate change, the sowing of paddy should be done directly, Kumar said adding, all agriculture science centres should carry out experimental farming and crops should be cultivated to suit the climate.
The Krishi Raths were sent to all districts to apprise people about various schemes being run by the agriculture department for promotion of the farm sector and ensure implementation the same in a transparent manner.
On the state government's endeavour for increasing cultivation of various crops, Vijay Prakash said under Kharif Abhiyan, 2016, a target has been fixed for coverage of 34 lakh hectares farm land for paddy, 4.75 lakh hectares for maize, 50,000 hectares for coarse grains and 1.75 lakh hectares for pulses.
On the basis of coverage of crop areas, a target has been fixed for cultivation of 113.10 lakh metric tonnes food grain, he added.
