"The opposition (BJP and RJD) has adopted a 'hit and run' tactics in the state legislature by habitually walking out after making their points on various issues...They should have patience to hear out the state government's reply too," he said in the legislative council while replying to the debate on the Bodh Gaya Temple (Amendment) Bill, 2013.
Kumar made the 'hit and run' remark on the opposition after the BJP MLCs followed their RJD colleagues in walking out of the legislative council to protest the state government's decision to bring legislation aimed at lifting restriction on non-Hindu district magistrates of Gaya from becoming the Bodh Gaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC) Chairperson.
"What type of conduct the opposition members are displaying?" the Chief Minister wondered before proceeding to defend the JD(U) government's decision to effect amendment in the Bodh Gaya Temple (Amendment) Bill, 2013 and allayed apprehensions raised by the BJP and RJD MLCs that the step will vitiate peace in Bihar.
A district magistrate is caste and religion neutral and required to discharge duties in impartial manner as a representative of the state government, Kumar said, adding that in any case the BTMC chairman of any caste and religious background has no role in conduct of religious rituals in the Mahabodhi temple and restricted to manage administrative affairs of the temple.
