Nitish orders electronic transfer of funds to Panchayats

With an aim to bring efficiency in working of Panchayati Raj institutions, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today ordered opening of bank accounts of all panchayats and send money in them through electronic transfer.
The order to this effect was given by Kumar during a review meeting of the Panchayati Raj department here, an official statement said.
The statement, quoting Principal Secretary of the Panchayati Raj department Sudhir Kumar Rakesh, said the CM instructed that all Panchayat bhawans completed should be computerised.
Rakesh said the CM directed the department to prepare a prospective plan and annual work plan for use of Panchayat funds for the next five years.
Kumar instructed that a coordination group be constituted for better coordination between departments for effective implementation of work through Panchayati Raj bodies and gave direction to expedite the process of strengthening of panchayati raj structure carried out of World Bank assistance.
He also ordered filling vacancies of officials and workers in Panchayats at all levels, the Principal Secretary added.
