"There was no attack by the mining mafia on Roorkee's Joint Magistrate Sonika as reported by a section of the media today," Haridwar SSP Rajiv Swarup said.
Narrating the incident, he said the Joint Magistrate did go to Solani river for inspection on last night but there was no attack on her as was reported.
"When she tried to stop a tractor trolley loaded with sand, its driver turned the vehicle towards the fields and escaped," he said.
A section of the media here carried reports this morning saying there was an attempt by the mining mafia to run over the officer when she went to the river last night to check quarrying.
