Nepali Congress has ruled out the possibility of postponing Constituent Assembly elections scheduled for November 19 or changing the head of the interim government, two key demands put forward by the some political parties for participating in the polls.
"We have shown maximum flexibility to accommodate all the political parties for joining the Constituent Assembly elections but it is not possible to postpone the election which is scheduled for November 19," Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala told PTI.
"We cannot change the government led by chief justice Khil Raj Regmi at this point of time as it would not be possible to do so, if we are to serious about conducting election as per schedule," he pointed out.
He said his party is ready to consider all other demands of the opposition parties so that they can take part in the election process.
"We are ready to show maximum flexibility to all other demands of the opposition parties and we are trying to allow all the parties to participate in the elections," he said.
We are even ready to give place to the disgruntled political parties in the High Level Political Mechanism (HLPC), under whose guidance the election government functions, Koirala said.
The HLPC is a high level political body having representation from four major political forces.
Koirala also expressed hope that the Federal Socialist Party led by Ashok Rai, which has been demanding to increase the total seats of the Constituent Assembly from present 585 to 601, will join the November elections.
"We are even ready to discuss their demands," Koirala said.
