Congress today dismissed suggestions that it was making any compromise with national interests due to coalition compulsions in Jammu and Kashmir and that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's recent remarks echo separatist line.
"A coalition does not sidestep national interests at any point. What Omar is saying about his concerned state and what the central government is discussing with him are things which are outside the public domain.
"As you have rightly said that Jammu and Kashmir is a very sensitive state at this point, I request you that let us not read into the situations those things which are not there," party spokesperson Renuka Chowdhary told reporters.
She was replying to a host of questions including whether Omar in his recent remarks do not appear to be echoing the views by separatists.
Cautioning against the people of Jammu and Kashmir being "taken for granted", Abdullah had asked the Centre to engage with them politically in a dialogue.
In an interview to PTI three days ago, the Chief Minister had said that "by design or by default we have given this impression to the people in the state that we only engage with them when there is trouble".
He had cited instances of engaging with the separatists at the peak of militancy or with the general public in the aftermath of agitations in 2008 and 2010.
