Noted author and playwright Syed Asghar Wajahat today said that there is no dearth of good work in Hindi language as the new generation, along with seniors, is coming out with good work.
"There has always been good work (in Hindi), there is and the good work should continue in the same way," Wajahat said during the theatre festival at National School of Drama (NSD).
"... And our new writers are facing new challenges from society... There is a speed with which things move and they are carrying forward the work efficiently," said Wajahat, whose partition drama 'Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya' is often performed by theatre enthusiasts.
The veteran writer was participating at the 'Interaction on New Writings in Theatre' event held at NSD which also saw accomplished writers Surendra Verma, Mannu Bhandari and Partap Sehgal read excerpts from their recent dramas.
Dismissing that Hindi is losing ground in play writing, Tripurari Sharma, staff representative NSD Society, said the event will create awareness about the original work being done in the language.
"The event was organised because since long time it has been heard that there are no plays are being written in Hindi. But that is not true, there are senior writers working and new ones are also thriving," said Sharma.
"Theatre writing is a significant activity and is an important part of the whole theatre process. It is not only scenes or performance, theatre has content and connection with literature also," she added.
The one-day event held today at the NSD campus had two-sessions of play reading with the first session being predominantly on political satire and the other comic-satire on contemporary issues.
NSD's theatre festival, in its 16th edition, started on January 4 and will run till January 19.
