No disconnect with Sudheeran: Chandy

Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy today said he had no disconnect with newly appointed KPCC President V M Sudheeran and asserted the party would press ahead unitedly and make gains in the coming Lok Sabha polls.
"Whoever tries to drive a wedge between us will be disappointed in the end. We will move ahead unitedly and the party will make gains," Chandy said in reply to queries from reporters during his weekly cabinet briefing.
The question was posed in the backdrop of reports that Chandy was not happy at the choice of Sudheeran as KPCC chief by the Congress high command, overlooking his suggestions.

There were also speculation that the Chief Minister might find it difficult to work in co-ordination with Sudheeran as he has been a critic of some of the policies and approaches of the Government led by the Congress.
Apparently taking note of the situation in the state unit, AICC President Sonia Gandhi, during her visit to the state last week, put across a sound and clear message to the state party leaders that they should shed groupism and work in harmony to ensure victory of the Congress and the UDF in Parliament elections.
Asked about the open stand of Sudheeran against allowing the work on the private airport at Aranmula, Chandy said the government would take an appropritate decision on the issue at the right time.

He, however, said it was the previous LDF Government that gave clearance to the project and the UDF had only followed suit.
The greenfield airport proposal has been under fire for quite some time with local resistance groups spearheading an agitation for scrapping the project on the ground that it posed a serious threat to environment and heritage of Aranmula and surrounding areas in Pathanamthitta district.
The struggle has received support from almost all political parties, green campaigners and cultural leaders.
