Chief Electoral officer V.Candavelou who launched the programme and also flagged off a mobile voters registration' project, said the purpose of the initiatives was to ensure no eligible voters are left out of enrolment and the current task was to concentrate specifically on certain groups of voters.
He said that transgenders, differently abled persons, excluded women, migrant labourers, uneducated rural youth and non resident Indians would be specifically targeted under the LEVER programme.
Muthamma, Chief Coordinator of the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation, who also spoke, said college students would act as 'campus ambassadors' and collect data on their electoral profiles the SVEEP programme.
She said that as per 2011 census the population of Union Territory of Puducherry was 12.48 lakh while the voters strength as of now was 9.13 lakh, which is 72 percent of the total population.
