No eligible voters should be left out of enrolment: CEO

: As part of its target to ensure that all eligible voters in the Union Territory are enrolled in the voters list, the Department of Elections today set in motion a campaign called LEVER (Looping in Everyone) programme today.
Chief Electoral officer V.Candavelou who launched the programme and also flagged off a mobile voters registration' project, said the purpose of the initiatives was to ensure no eligible voters are left out of enrolment and the current task was to concentrate specifically on certain groups of voters.
He said that transgenders, differently abled persons, excluded women, migrant labourers, uneducated rural youth and non resident Indians would be specifically targeted under the LEVER programme.
He said the department was also involving line departments such as Health, Labour, National Informatics Centre, NSS, Nehru Yuvak Kendra and nodal officers from colleges to reach out to the target groups.
Muthamma, Chief Coordinator of the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation, who also spoke, said college students would act as 'campus ambassadors' and collect data on their electoral profiles the SVEEP programme.
She said that as per 2011 census the population of Union Territory of Puducherry was 12.48 lakh while the voters strength as of now was 9.13 lakh, which is 72 percent of the total population.
