The National Police Commemoration Day held every year in the memory of the security personnel, killed in the line of duty, will not take place at its traditional venue in Chanakyapuri here tomorrow.
October 21 is observed as the day of remembrance for police and paramilitary martyrs, and the Union Home Minister lays a wreath at the memorial here as a mark of tribute from the nation to the gallant men and women.
"The venue is undergoing structural changes and a new and refurbished police memorial is expected to come up at this place in Chanakyapuri next year. Hence, the event is not being held here," a senior official said.
The NBCC has been entrusted with the task of constructing a new national police memorial at the old venue, the official said.
They said various paramilitary and police organisations will be, however, holding a series of events in their camps in Delhi and across the country tomorrow.
While the Border Security Force will hold special events for its martyrs and their families nationwide, the Delhi Police will hold a memorial event at its Kingsway camp base in the national capital.
Other paramilitary forces like CISF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB and NSG have also made arrangements to hold the event at their respective locations.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh and his Minister of State Kiren Rijiju are also scheduled to attend an event on Indian Police organised by veterans of these forces.
The day is remembered in the memory of those policemen who were killed while taking on Chinese forces at a place called 'Hot Springs' in Ladakh in 1959 when they were guarding the Indian border.
