"The force has decided not to deploy the new recruits from Punjab at the Punjab Frontier, for the first five years of their service," acting IG of BSF Punjab Frontier J P Uniyal said during a press conference here.
The decision was taken after the reported involvement of some BSF men in the smuggling of drugs from Pakistan, Uniyal said.
The acting IG was asked about the steps taken by the BSF, after a reported connivience of some Frontier's personnel with smugglers came into light.
"We are also verifying those who have already joined the force," he added.
Recently, the BSF did not issue joining letters to five-six persons who were found involved in drug peddling, Uniyal said.
Uniyal further said that BSF regularly kept an eye on the men posted at the borders and "they can be jailed if found guilty."
