The government is not considering any proposal to raise the annual allocation to MPs under MPLAD scheme from Rs 5 crore.
"At present, no proposal to increase the annual allocation of MPLADS funds, particularly for socially and economically backward constituencies, is under consideration in the ministry," Statistics Minister Rao Inderjit Singh said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha today.
The annual allocation under Member of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) is the same, Rs 5 crore per year per MP, for every constituency in the country, according to the reply.
The annual allocation was raised from Rs 2 crore to Rs 5 crore in 2011-12. Thus every MP in 15th Lok Sabha had Rs 19 crore during five-year term of the government under MPLADS.
All Lok Sabha MPs were entitled to a total amount of Rs 10,339.93 crore under the MPLAD scheme during 15th Lok Sabah period, according to the reply.
The central government released Rs 9,208.5 crore and an amount of Rs 9,809.12 crore was sanctioned by local authorities for works under the scheme.
The total expenditure incurred by Lok Sabha MPs during 15th Lok Sabha period (2009-14) under the scheme was Rs 7,846.19 crore as on June 30, 2014, the reply said.
Under the MPLAD scheme, each MP has the choice to suggest to the District Collector for works to the tune of Rs 5 crore per annum to be taken up in his or her constituency.
The Member of Parliament from Rajya Sabha can recommend works in one or more districts in the state from where he or she has been elected.
