The Bombay High Court today refused to grant relief to a tarot card reader, who had challenged a complaint of extortion and cheating filed against her by the wife of Bollywood actor and producer Dheeraj Kumar.
The division bench of Justices P V Hardas and A R Joshi was hearing the petition filed by Shivani Ahluwalia, seeking to quash the FIR lodged by Zuby Kochar, Kumar's wife.
According to Ahluwalia's lawyer J A Udaipuri, Kochar wanted some spiritual intervention and had first approached a god-man in Vasai in 2000, where she met Ahluwalia. Not happy with the god-man's services, she came to Ahluwalia, and had been visiting her for the last ten years.
However, in July of 2011, Kochar lodged a complaint of cheating and extortion against both the god-man and Ahluwalia, alleging that the duo duped her of over Rs two crores. "How can the petitioner (Ahluwalia) be charged? These are issues of faith. Divine intervention is different for different people," Udaipuri argued.
Additional Public Prosecutor Ajey Gadkari said the investigation was nearing completion and Amboli police were likely to file a chargesheet soon.
The court then said the petitioner could seek discharge from the case after the chargesheet is filed, instead of getting the FIR quashed.
