Salman was living with his sister Salma at Barula village in Sector 49. On August 18, he killed her and then took the body to their hometown Amroha and concocted a story about her death, the police said.
Salman told his family members and villagers that some unidentified person had "mysteriously" cut her hair after which she fell unconscious and subsequently died, they said.
However, some villagers got suspicious and informed the police and Salman was arrested. On sustained interrogation, Salman confessed to having killed his sister, the police claimed.
Salman told the police that his sister had an affair with a man and against his wishes, the police said.
The accused said he suffocated his sister to death using a pillow "to save himself from public embarrassment", they added.
