Meanwhile, a report from Thanjavur, quoting officials, said that farmers in Delta districts, including Tiruvarur, Thanjavur and Nagapattinam were upbeat after heavy rains lashed several areas for about two hours this morning.
Farmers had been concerned about the prospect of saving their single crop due to poor flow in the Cauvery river, they said.
The officials said the rains would help direct sowing of crops and save those that had been transplanted.
They said the rains would help farmers who had cultivated corn, onion and cotton in about two lakh acres in these districts.
