Responsible for repair, recovery and maintenance of technical equipment of the army, the Corps of Electronics & Mechanical Engineers today celebrated its 72nd anniversary, PRO Defence Northern Command said.
General officer Commanding in Chief of Northern Command Lt Gen D S Hooda complimented all ranks of the corps for their dedication and high degree of professionalism.
Senior officers of the corps laid a wreath at Dhurva War Memorial on behalf of the EME fraternity to pay respect to the martyrs on the 72nd raising day of the corps.
"Subsequently, the corps was rechristened as Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers on Jan 1, 2001," the spokesman said.
He said the corps has been proactive in delivery of engineering support as per operational requirements and has thus ensured an optimal level of equipment availability in the hands of troops.
"Delivering beyond expectations in spheres of repair, recovery and maintenance, EME in Northern Command has carved a special niche for itself in the field of counter remote control Improvised Explosive Device (IED) equipment, bullet proofing of vehicles and major repairs to specialist equipment," he said.
