Northern Railway has a set a target of elimination of 200 level crossings through construction of road overbridge and road underbridge in the current fiscal to check accidents.
"We have constructed about 80 ROB/RUB and 8 foot overbridges in the 2015-16 and the aim is to construct about 200 ROB/RUB in the current fiscal," said a senior Northern Railway official.
Besides, many people-centric initiatives were also undertaken to afford quality and quick response in public services like dedicated help lines, response to suggestions on social media in streamlining modes of services and making train related information more accessible.
In order to commemorate the running of the first train in the country between Boribunder and Thane, Railways celebrates the Railway Week every year during April.
Celebrating the Railway Week, Northern Railway General Manger AK Puthia said, "It had been one of the most eventful years. New trends in rail travel through enhanced coach comfort and new measures to ensure coach cleanliness were commenced as part of the Railways' endeavour to deliver better travel experience."
Pointing out to the running of the first semi-high-speed train on Indian Railways, the Gatimaan Express, Puthia stated this was symbolic of future of high speed travel in the country.
On capacity augmentation, he said 200 km long track has been added in the last fiscal.
