Notice to Goa Chief Secy,DGP on working condition of policemen

The GoaHumanRightsCommission (GHRC) today issued notices to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police directing them to appear before it on November 9 in connection with a complaint regarding long working hours amid appalling conditions for policemen.
The bench comprising of Retired District Judge A D Salkar and J A Keny has issued the notices responding to the complaint filed by social activist Aires Rodrigues.
Pointing out that most policemen get a break only after many days of work,Rodrigues stated that this has been taking atoll on their personalliveswith aspate of incidents that has exposed the stress related fragility affecting the police force.
Rodrigues hassoughtthatlike all other government employees,police should alsogetaneight hour shiftwhich will increase their efficiency.
In his complaint, Rodrigues further said that on account of long hours of work-related stress,alot of the policemen are grappling withserioushealth problems like hypertension, diabetes and depressionand theworkingand living conditions of thepoliceat some of the police stations and barracks are wasalsoveryinhuman.
Alleging thatpolicemen are also not beingpaid uniform, washing, rifleand ration allowance in time, Rodrigues said thistreatment meted out to the police forcewasa clear and blatanthuman rights violation.
Seeking thatthe genuinegrievances and pathetic working conditions confronting the police forcebe looked intoby the governmentin right earnest, Rodrigues has sought that the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police be directed to explain as to how they have been mere spectators to this grave and gross human rights violation of the policemen in the state.
