Yadav who had been on the run for the last 20 years, hiding in various parts of India and Nepal was wanted by the police in 42 cases of kidnapping for ransom, murder and manslaughter in Bagaha and Bettiah areas of West Champaran districts, the sources said.
The Bihar government had announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh on information leading to his arrest.
"This is a big achievement for our force. He had been absconding for almost 20 years. Several attempts by us to nab him in Nepal and different parts of India failed because he continuously kept on changing his hideouts," said Inspector General of Police (Operations) Amit Kumar.
Most of the cases in the police records in which he is an accused have been filed after 1998. Sources said if the crimes he was involved in pre-1998 are taken into consideration, the number of cases would cross 100.
Yadav used to commit crimes and then flee to other states or Nepal to escape getting caught. STF officials are bringing him to Bihar to face prosecution.
In another operation, STF arrested Deven Rajvanshi and Naimuddin from Kishanganj district of northeast Bihar. Both are involved in over a dozen cases of loot, extortion, murder and carry a reward of Rs 25,000 each.
