In further trouble for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Delhi Police have lodged an FIR against the husband of party's Shalimar Bagh MLA Bandana Kumari for allegedly putting pressure on a school principal to admit a student.

"An FIR was lodged at Shalimar Bagh police station against Sajjan Kumar (Kumari's husband) yesterday following a complaint by the principal of Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in BT Block.

"The principal, Ranjeet Singh, claimed that Kumar had been putting pressure on him for admitting a student... And had threatened him (Singh) with dire consequences if the demand was not met," said a senior police officer.

Kumar has been booked under sections 146 (rioting), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), and 506/34 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC.

The development could spell further trouble for AAP, which has been facing criticism over the arrest of its two MLAs within five months of forming the government in Delhi.

AAP's Kondli MLA Manoj Kumar was arrested by Delhi Police in a case of alleged cheating and land-grabbing on July 9. Earlier on June 9, the then Law Minister Jitendra Singh Tomar was arrested on charges of possessing fake degrees. Tomar had later resigned from the Cabinet and has been in judicial custody.

Principal Singh had also lodged a complaint with the Education Department of Delhi Government on July 8.

The principal had said that he would resign if no action was taken in connection with his complaint. "This is to inform that I have been facing lot of political pressure for admission from class 6 to 11 which do not come under RTE Act/departmental norms," the principal said in the complaint, titled "Harassment and Misbehavior by Sajjan Kumar".
