Low-cost carrier SpiceJet, which lowered its fares by up to 75 per cent last quarter, today offered fares as low as Re 1 across its domestic network with limited period bookings, putting its rivals on the mat.
Besides, the Gurgaon-based airline also announced two more special schemes, offering travellers tickets at Rs 799 and Rs 1,499 with a booking window of three days, starting from today.
All these special fare schemes are, however, excluding of taxes and airport fees, the airline said in a release here.
The travel period for the tickets booked under these schemes will remain valid till March 28 next year, starting July, it said.
"We have received overwhelming response to our previous offers and I am confident this sale too will attract many new flyers," SpiceJet chief operating officer Sanjiv Kapoor said.
Stating that the airline's move to offer low fares at different point of time in the last quarter received overwhelming response from the customers, Kapoor said, "our market stimulation efforts have had a significant positive impact on the entire travel ecosystem at a time when the economy has slowed."
These offers have served as a catalyst for travel for many potential flyers willing to plan and book early," Chief Commercial Officer Kaneswaran Avli said.
"These fares will allow families to plan their vacations and weekend trips at fares lower than train fares with joy and freedom, now that the pressure of March school exams is finally over," he said.
SpiceJet, which posted a massive Rs 171-crore loss in the December quarter, was the first carrier to slash fares immediately after the end of peak winters holiday season last year, forcing other carriers including Air India and Jet Airways to follow suit.
