Sleuths of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Tuesday caught a deputy engineer while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a contractor here in Maharashtra, police said.
The deputy engineer, S C Tarone, a Class II officer, was serving under the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), an ACB release said here.
The contractor had carried out electrification work at Primary Health Centres at Darekasa and Kakodi village in the district and contacted Tarone to enquire about his payment.
The deputy engineer sought a bribe of Rs 1.70 lakh to clear his bills, the release said.
The contractor agreed to pay the money and at the same time lodged a complaint with the ACB early this month. The anti-graft agency laid a trap and caught Tarone while accepting the first instalment of Rs 1 lakh, the release added.
