Assam Rifles personnel, acting on a tip off, asked a car to stop near Hoshepu village when they were fired upon by occupants of the vehicle, the officials said.
The security-men then retaliated and NSCN(K) 'finance secretary' L Tuccu and two other cadres were killed, they said adding that an over ground worker of the outfit was also apprehended.
However, an allegation was raised from some quarters that the security personnel ambushed Tuccu's vehicle killing him, the car driver and a civilian when he was going to his native village Itovi to pay tribute to his father who died last week.
